PALO, Leyte, July 15 — The Department of Trade and Industry – Regional Office 8 (DTI-8), through its provincial offices, conducted random inspections of construction materials being sold in the region on July 5.

Relative to this, DTI-8 mobilized its provincial monitoring and enforcement teams to ensure that consumers are provided with safe and quality products.

Around 36 firms in eight cities and municipalities covering Tacloban City, Carigara, Maasin City, Naval, Calbayog City, Catbalogan City, Borongan City, and Catarman were monitored and proven compliant to product standards and fair trade laws.

Products covered during the inspection include steel bars, cement, PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and sanitary pipes, electrical and glass products.

The purpose also of the simultaneous monitoring and enforcement across the country is to strengthen advocacy on product standards of certain construction materials.

The said simultaneous inspection conducted nationwide was in response to rampant reports of substandard products proliferating in the market received by the DTI in the past quarter. (LDL/DTI-8/PIA-8, Leyte)
