CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, July 16 (PIA)–The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) inaugurated the country’s biggest port Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) located at the Port of Cagayan de Oro, Monday, July 15.
 

DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, PPA General Manager Jay Santiago and PPA Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro Port Manager Isidro Butaslac Jr.  led the inauguration. 
 
The two-storey building with a total floor area of 5,597 square meters can accommodate up to 3,000 sea passengers daily, triple the previous passenger capacity. 
 
The biggest PTB features brand new facilities that will enhance the safety and security of the sea-traveling public. These include security checkpoints with x-ray scanners for baggage, body scanners, CCTVs, security office, passenger boarding stations, collector’s booth, public assistance desk, designated green areas, green area, storage rooms for equipment and housekeeping, and offices for passenger-related agencies such as quarantine, tourist police, and the Coast Guard.
 
It also boasts of GAD-amenities such play area for children; child care station for breastfeeding and diaper changing; ecumenical prayer rooms; separate toilet facilities for PWDs, female, and male; and special boarding lane for senior citizens, PWDs, pregnant women, and women traveling with children below two (2) years old, as well as, urgent medical care room, food stalls, coffee shops, and pasalubong centers, among others for the comfort and convenience of the public.
 
“I have inaugurated many terminals during our term, and the truth is, this is the biggest passenger terminal building in the Republic of the Philippines. Ito ‘hong project ito ay magbibigay tibay sa kagustuhan ng ating Pangulo na magkaroon ng mobility and connectivity sa Visayas at Mindanao,” Tugade said. 
 
Tugade also inaugurated the Opol Port Development Project in Luyong Bonbon which is strategically located in the first municipality of Misamis Oriental from the western part of the region.
 
He said the Opol port will serve as an alternate port to address the berth congestion in Cagayan de Oro Port.
